In Western society we are not taught to listen to our bodies. We are taught, instead, to trust pills and well- educated professionals who are, instead, the experts. To educate ourselves is to become empowered. For, then, can we be at the forefront of our own health, taking better control and responsibility for what our bodies are telling us.
The benefits of massage are numerous. It can lessen depression and anxiety, relieve tension headaches, relieve low back pain and improve range of motion therefore easing medication dependence. Massage pumps oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation. It relaxes and softens injured, tired and overused muscles. Massage releases endorphins - amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller. Massage also promotes quality sleep, lowers blood pressure and relaxes the body.
